Let’s talk about the Daimler 2.5 Litre V8 which is a 2548cc sedan from 1962. Came from England, it was a high performance luxury car and scored a huge fan base quickly among “rich boys”. It was quite similar to the Jaguar Mk1 series with some slight differences in mechanics. It incorporated the same SP250 engine and its excellent power unit enabled it to lift far more weight on front wheels as compared to heavy jaguar engine.

Made for people born with a silver spoon in their mouth, Daimler did not offer manual transmission. It offered automatic transmission. There were three speeds in automatic transmission. Due to the SP250 engine, the car was the best combination of high performance and compliance. It was equipped with power assisted disc type brakes. The engine worked very smoothly and efficiently.

Now let’s have a look on the interior of the Daimler V8. Each and every piece of interior was set very logically and contributed to the sophistication of the car. The speedometer and tachometer were fixed right in front of the driving seat. The dials were spaced across the center of the dash. The labeled switches were visible under the dials. The dial of the transmission selector illuminated automatically when ignition was on. Then there was a map light, courtesy lights and another light which got on automatically when glove box was opened. The steering was of recirculating ball type and was really comfortable to handle.

Daimler V8 had electric washers and there were two speeds for wipers. The dashboard lights alerted driver if low hydraulic fluid level or engaged hand brakes were detected. The doors had high quality vinyl material. For comfortable seating, each door was equipped with armrests. There was a folding armrest in the centre of the back bench.

The door capping was covered with polished wood which looked very sophisticated. The floor was covered with high quality carpets. The driving seat was made very comfortable and was designed in such a way with adjustable steering and reclining squab that driver of any size can fit in easily. Three people can be seated easily on the back bench. The back area was quite spacious providing enough leg room for the travelers.

The Daimler V8 was designed in such a way that it looks smaller than it actually was. Its length was about 15 ft and width was 5 ft 6.75 inches. The height measured 4 ft 8.5 inches. The weight of the car was about 30 cwt. The back window was not that much big but gave sufficient view to driver while reversing. The car was capable of running at 75 mph all the day long. Its top speed was maximum 106 mph. The first gear gave speed of 42 mph, second gear gave speed of 74 mph and third or top gear gave speed of 106 mph. The wheels were equipped with servo discs. It is equipped with a mechanism that allows driver to detect easily gradual transition from under steer to over steer. The fuel consumption in Daimler V8 was from 18 to 20 mpg.
